In my opinion arranged marriages are far from outdated.It is still the ‘accepted’ norm in most of the Asian cultures & many of the different religions.I say this because I am of such a background.I am a Muslim who did not live in an Islamic country.So I had a lot of exposure to both sides of this argument.

In many of the Asian and South Asian cultures the accepted form is that of arranged marriages.Love marriages are still looked at with raised brows.This has nothing to do with one specific religion.In general Hindu,Muslims,Buddhist,Christi ans are far more slaves to the accepted norm than to their religions.So it is still far more important to most parents that their children are given in marriage in the proper way than if their children make happy marriages.

But the problem and the reason that these arranged marriages are still practiced is that they do tend to work more often than not.In my family even today most marriages are arranged,mine included. I married a total stranger but I did have the privilege of meeting & talking (with elders present) & asking some important questions .But I know of marriages where only the parents have seen each partner & still those marriages have worked.The two people getting married only see each other on the wedding day & they still are together some 35 years later.Hence these kind of marriages still take place today & they are working.
