There are two ways to arrive at Islas Secas, either by boat to the floating dock on Cavada the largest of the islands, where you will be met by the entire staff. The dock is floating because of the incredible rise and fall of the tide in the Pacific, so much so that the 16 foot tide empties the bay each low tide.

If you fly in you will arrive on the resort’s private plane after a one hour flight from Panama City, and once again be met by the staff line up.

You’ll be shown to your own totally secluded ocean view guest bungalow known as a ‘Casita’, and there are only six all told in the entire resort. They are round and very elaborate semi permanent tents on a concrete base. There are windows all the way round to make sure you will be cooled by the sea breezes because there is no airconditioning.
Every Casita has solar electricity, which gives enough power for low voltage lights hot water, and small fans. All designed to have as little impact as possible on the environment.

The casitas all have terrific views , and covered areas alongside known as a Ranchito which has hammocks and seating. Everything is totally private thanks to the way it has been landscaped with tropical foliage, with convenient gaps to enjoy the views of the beach and the sky which at night is spectacular.

What you do on Islas Secas is very much up to you. This luxury private island is a luxury escape a luxury total getaway from all the pressure of 21st Century life. So if you really want to get away, then this is the place to be.

There are a number of activities to be undertaken, with the scuba diving and big game fishing quite brilliant if that is what you want to do. One of the beautiful things about these waters off Panama where Islas Secas is situated is the complete lack of people. This means nothing has been ruined or lessened by tourism because there is simply nobody here. Put another way, there aren’t anyone’s footprints on the beaches.

You could make an executive decision after taking advice from the very knowledgeable staff to become a castaway for the day. You could be taken in the morning on the resort’s boat to Pargo Island complete with picnic lunch, beach umbrellas towels, snorkelling. You can spend all day there, and you will feel very much like Robinson Crusoe. The island is everything you ever thought a small deserted tropical island would be. The powder sand, shells, driftwood, with a backdrop of palm trees and not one footprint apart from the your own – paradise!!

Your options at the end of such a glorious day, and of course you may well have gone fishing at Hannibal Banks or surfing at Morro Negro, you can then visit the Spa for any number of treatments to relax you and ease any tired muscles in preparation for happy hour at 5pm at La Terraza a beachside terrace to drink cocktails and discuss the days activities with other guests in preparation for the feast that is dinner.

Then tomorrow, with perhaps some hiking, shell hunting, hobie cats, snorkeling, whatever, this is such a great hideaway.

Islas Secas isn’t for the Gucci Loafer, Radisson Hotel type, but very much for the couple or family who want an escape, with no TV’s or cellphones, just peace, solitude on one of the best private islands anywhere with some of the best hosts anywhere as well.

Coco Plum Island is a 16 acre cay, and is situated just 8 miles off the coast of Belize.

We were planning our honeymoon, and we both love ‘bare feet and casual’ and we found Coco Plum by accident when we were researching for a Caribbean Vacation, which then extended to Belize, and then the idea for a Belize Island Honeymoon came about.

We felt an all inclusive Belize honeymoon package would be our choice, a bit more research and the decision was made, and we have never regretted it.

We flew into Belize City from Newark, changed planes and flew to Dangriga, where we were met by one of the staff from Coco Plum, from their to the boat dock, and then 15 -20 minutes by small boat to the island. In fact from the moment we were picked up in the Coco Plum ‘van’ we realised this was going to be special. It’s weird how sometimes you just get that great feeling really quickly.

When we reached the island it was straight to the bar, whilst our bags were sorted. Looking around we realised how beautiful it was, sitting in the thatch roofed bar looking out over a crystal clear turquoise/blue sea.

Our Cabana was very comfortable, and we really felt the staff had only one concern, and that was our well being. There is an impression that there is no electricity, and in fact the island generates all its own power, and produces its own water. This is not 24 hour service, shopping mall, duplex five star comfort, but we felt that everyone on the island were kind of ‘no shoes’ laid back like us.

Overall we had a great time, the food was absolutely delicious, something very important to me. The beach lovely, the water warm, and crystal clear. We don’t scuba, but we do snorkel, and we were taken to some lovely places where the fish were just amazing.

We read a lot, and even went on an expedition into the interior of Belize, to the Mayan ruins tour, a must see. We couldn’t go home and say we hadn’t been and done anything!!

I will however especially remember the beauty of Coco Plum Island, the friendliness of the staff, and the effort they put in to make our stay memorable. The three great meals every day, and the people who we met who felt like we did.

This is just the best possible Belize honeymoon package we could have wished for.

The Island Hideaway of Bangaram island resort is some 200 miles from Kerala to the south west of India in the Arabian Sea, and is one of the Lakshadweep Islands. Normally it is accessed by a flight from Cochin to Agatti, then onward by boat for a 90 minute ride. Getting onto the boat at Agatti is an experience in itself, as you get onto a raft, and then they tow you out to the boat!! You immediately feel this is a true hideaway holiday, and your tropical island resort is going to be a bit different. Take good advice and fly Kingfisher and not Indian Airlines for reliability.

It is the perfect romantic honeymoon getaway, a lush green uninhabited island covered in coconut groves, and shaped like a teardrop. It is surrounded by pristine white sand and a huge lagoon, and is part of a coral atoll with another three islands, all of which can easily be reached form Bangaram, by outboarding, sailing or rowing, kayaking or windsurfing if you find the need to be energetic.

It is probably the way the Maldives were before mass tourism arrived, because the coral reefs are ablaze with colour and packed with fish because as yet they are relatively unexplored.

If you want a tropical vacation on an island hideaway, or a romantic honeymoon getaway, then Bangaram could be your ideal destination or as part of a package including time in the Kerala part of India.

You need to understand that this island hideaway, whilst perfect for a romantic honeymoon getaway, or for people who want to play at being castaways, it isn’t at all for people looking for luxury. If you need the trappings of a five star resort, just don’t go.

Bangaram itself consists of 30 huts which includes a number of family huts in twin/double cottages. There are no televisions, telephones or air-conditioning, and to complete the island getaway feeling there are no newspapers so you will be completely out of effective contact with the stresses of the modern world. Each hut is tiled, on the beach, and has a palm thatched veranda, ensuite bathroom, ceiling fan and a fridge. The accommodation is simple but very comfortable, but please note there is no hot water!!

The epicentre of Bangaram Island resort is the restaurant hut which has been built around a central pole and made of bamboos and palm fronds. The food at the resort for lunch and dinner is a bit Indian, and a bit Continental, and very much seafood based. The food is without exception outstanding.

Breakfast includes cereals, eggs, Indian dishes and a lot of fresh fruit.

At night there is a barbecue on the beach, and the chance to eat outside overlooking the moon shining on the lagoon Bangaram Island resort is the only place where alcohol is permitted in the Lakshadweep Islands, and the beach bar is the centre of the evening activity. It serves beer and cocktails and will remain open until the guests have had enough!!

You will find the staff at this island hideaway very courteous and helpful, there is even a volleyball match played between staff and guests.

There is little doubt that Bangaram Island Hideaway makes for a romantic honeymoon because of its ambiance. It is a place to come, to totally relax. The only noise you will really hear is the murmur of conversation. You can do nothing a little or a little more. Choose from snorkeling, diving, swimming in the lagoon, massages and volleyball. From sailing or rowing, kayaking or windsurfing. There is an activity center, so you can play on board games, or take a book and read it, whilst sprawled on one of the many hammocks or relaxed on a sun bed.

If you want to dive, the diving is spectacular, with unspoilt coral, and incredibly clear water.

Wilson is that kind of place, probably idyllic for three or four days with no mobile phone coverage, no children, no television, just the birds, and the crashing of the sea to listen to.

If you are able to entertain yourself, and you don’t mind the unorthodox toilet arrangements, or a communal dinner party atmosphere in the evenings, then Wilson Island could be the perfect honeymoon resort.

A Fiji Honeymoon has to be the ultimate in the South Pacific if you can afford to go there in the first place!

What are dreams for, if not to come true, and Dolphin Island could be just waiting for you and your new spouse’s honeymoon vacation. The dream honeymoon should be spent on your own private island, waited on hand and foot, surrounded by blue seas, white sand, and no troubles in the world to come near you .

The least expensive option is a two hour drive around the coast to Rakiraki followed by a 10 minute boat trip.

Dolphin Island apart from this is all-inclusive, and it really is a private island paradise, consisting of just two dwellings or Bures, and you will be the only guests on the island at any one time.

The two Bures stand next to each other, built in traditional Fijian style, they are built up off the ground with wide and roomy verandas to maximise the sea breezes, and face the setting sun. One Bure is purely for dining, and relaxing, whilst the other one has two completely separate suites and both are air conditioned.

Truthfully there isn’t a huge amount to do at Dolphin Private Island, but most activity is naturally based on the sea. Snorkeling equipment is available as well as advice on where to most enjoy the crystal clear water and the multi coloured fish. The more energetic can paddle kayaks or sail a Hobie Cat.

On land you can walk around the island at low tide and here you get the chance to look at ancient Fijian fishing pools. If you are feeling particularly adventurous you can follow a walking trail and spend a night sleeping out in a room on the other side of the island.

Dolphin Island is truly a magical hidden island and perfect for a few days in the middle of a South Pacific Honeymoon. Just don’t expect sophisticated modern accouterments. This is simple and quite magnificent. The bures are decorated in the style of the local Fijian houses. The furniture is handcrafted, the bures have wooden beams hewn from local trees, and a dark local cloth covers the walls.

The food is exceptionally good, and of course cooked especially to please you, the only guests, in this exclusive laid back paradise that is Dolphin Private Island, home of the owner of New Zealand’s famous Huka Lodge. The management and staff also go out of their way to ensure you feel like the owners during your stay!!
