Where can we expect to get the most for our money?

Ann Lile: All-inclusive resorts will give you the most for your money since most packages will include all meals, drinks, and non-motorized activities available at the resort.

The Colonial Cities of Mexico (including Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Guadalajara, San Miguel de Allende, Zacatecas and Merida) are also good value, giving the traveler a cultural/historical experience similar to Europe, only at a much better price.

When is the best time of the year to go to Mexico?

Ann: The peak season for traveling to Mexico is December through April, while the low season is from May through November.

The official hurricane season is June to October, which affects primarily the Yucatan Peninsula and Southern Coast. If you’re going to be honeymooning during hurricane season, and can’t take the chance of being visited by a hurricane on your vacation, you might be wise to avoid these regions of the country to be absolutely safe.

Rainy season is May through mid-October. The rainy season is of little consequence in the Northern region of the country while the Southern region typically receives tropical showers in the late afternoon on a daily basis.

Do you have any “hidden gems” of Mexico?

Ann: My personal favorites are the colonial cities of Mexico. These cities offer a tremendous amount of history, culture, architecture, a great climate, and a taste of the real Mexico. Built back in the 1500’s near the silver mines, these cities offer many small, intimate properties for vacationers of all kinds.

Highly recommended places to stay are the Quinta Real properties in Huatulco or Aguascalientes, which will give the traveler an intimate experience that combines the true flavor of Old Mexico with a historical feel.

Compared to Tahiti or Hawaii, what makes Mexico a special destination?

Ann: In addition to having beautiful beaches and various water activities to enjoy like Hawaii and Tahiti, Mexico affords the traveler the opportunity to experience wonderful archaeological sites such as Teotihuacán, Monte Alban, and Palenque. In addition, travelers can explore the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Uxmal, and Tulum.

Mexico is also home to many all-inclusive resorts, which provide wonderful value for travelers.

Where do celebrities like to stay?

Ann: As expected, celebrities flock to resorts that offer the ultimate in luxury, comfort, and privacy.

Here is a short list of my personal favorites:

Cancun – Fiesta Americana Grand

Ixtapa – Villa del Sol

Riviera Maya – Paraiso de la Bonita and Maroma

Los Cabos – One and Only Palmilla, Marquis Los Cabos, Hotel Twin Dolphin

Costa Alegre – El Careyes, El Tamarindo, Hotelito Desconocido

Puerto Vallarta – Four Seasons Punta Mita, Grand Velas, or Kevin Costner’s house!

Ann joined TheBigDay Travel in April 2005 after completing an internship program through Mt. Hood Community College. After obtaining an Economics degree from the University of Washington and many years in the banking industry, Ann looks forward to pursuing her new travel career with enthusiasm and a passion to work with two of her favorite things – travel and people!

We chose The One & Only Palmilla as the Best of Mexico honeymoon places purely by what we had read online, and because of the conversations we had with the hotel staff. To say we were pleased with our choice would be an understatement, because not only was the resort everything we could have asked for and more, there were two other bonuses we had not even bargained for.

The first was to be able not only to go whale watching in the Pacific Ocean near Baja, in fact off the beach close to the resort, but in addition the One & Only Palmilla Spa cuisine.

I think it will be the image of the whale I will remember forever, but the One & Only Palmilla came a very close second.

The Palmilla is an extraordinary resort from the food, the ambience, the lovely suite, the butler, the golf course, and of course the prices!!

This isn’t a cheap , but when a girl is on her honeymoon at the very best of Mexico honeymoon places, who cares what it costs. Drinks and food are expensive, even allowing for huge portions, and enough alcohol to drown a sailor, but hopefully the prices keep out the kind of people you don’t really want to be in a resort with!!

I digress from describing the One & Only Palmilla, but it is important to know these things.

The service is incredible, and it never ends. You are taken to your room in a Hummer, introduced to your butler, who is your s and totally yours alone. He will get you whatever you want, from reservations, to ice, drinks wherever you are. Nothing is too much trouble, and sometimes we felt embarrassed to ask!!

You can even get a sniff of oxygen by the pool, or your sunglasses brought, even a room upgrade, to find he has placed all your clothes exactly where they were, just in the new room.

The suites are fantastic, with living room, bedroom, and huge bathroom, and a very large patio, with a rain shower, loads of products which are replenished frequently. Great beds, a day bed on the patio, and not only a wonderful ocean view, but even a whale watching telescope!!

The infinity pool is fabulous, beautiful beach, stunning grounds, and food to die for. The spa is phenomenal with a relaxation area with a hot and cold plunge pool.

I have to finish with the food. Every meal was a joy, there wasn’t a bad meal during our stay.

Mexico, a country rich in arts and ancient cultures and
strategically located between Guatemala and the United States is
a perfect destination for a romantic Mexico honeymoon vacation.
This beautiful land of sunshine, clear blue seas, crystal-white
beaches, high and impressive mountains and volcanoes and jungles
of exotic wildlife provides honeymooners with lots to see and
do. In fact, places like Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta and
Acapulco are amongst the most romantic resorts in Mexico for
honeymooners. You will find a little bit of everything from the
romantic to adventurous, as well as secluded moments of art and

to eye-opening and amazing moments of a Mexican trio’s soulful

the romantic moonlight are just the prelude of romance in an

Additionally, shopping activities are not left out and it is
easy and fun to spend quality time bargaining in Insurgentes
Market of Zona Rosa for brilliant Mexican handcrafts – authentic
pottery, jewelry and blankets. Go for a walk through the city
which has been standing for centuries and go snorkeling or just
enjoy the sun on Mexico’s Riviera – renowned beach in Cancun and
visit the Mayan ruins at southern Quintana Roo of Mexico on a
horseback riding tour.

Couples who love privacy, relaxing and pampering will find these
services offered by most of the Mexico honeymoon resorts. There
is a variety of resorts to choose from located all over Mexico,
such as the Celba del Mar Spa Resort and Hyatt Cancun Caribe
Resorts and Villas in Cancun, Fairmont Acapulco Princess in

Vallarta. In these resorts you will be sure of obtaining
excellent facilities in spa treatments, sauna, steam baths,
Jacuzzi and fitness centers with professional consultants. In

for couples.

cities in Mexico, each of them bringing forth their own platter
of unique attractions. For instance, Cabo San Lucas, attracts
crowds with its mysterious natural hideaway and its romantic
appeal. While Cancun offers both sophistication and history as
