A flower girl is a very important addition to any one’s wedding. It is also a great way to show a little girl in your life how important she is to you. The flower girl follows behind the bridesmaids and either before or after the maid of honor. She scatters flower petals along the aisle as she walks to prepare the path and the guests for the bride’s arrival. One of the parts of planning a wedding brides can enjoy the most is looking for a flower girl dress and picking out the perfect one for her special girl. But, how do you prepare her and find that precious dress she’ll wear?
A flower girl is generally between the ages of three and eight. Of course, her cuteness will make your guests smile. Perhaps she is a niece or cousin, or a family friend. For some of you, the choice will be obvious. There’s a good chance the little girl you choose will act up during the ceremony or reception. One of the best ways to help prepare the little one for this occasion is to buy her a book about being a flower girl that will explain her role and get her excited.
One of the bridesmaids should be appointed to look after the flower girl during the ceremony. She might need someone to hold her hand, and someone to take her to her parents after her moment in the spotlight is over. The parents of the flower girl should be seated close to the isle for easy access and in a place where they can easily see their little girl’s big moment. It is especially vital that the flower girl uses the bathroom before the wedding begins. No matter what happens don’t be too worried about the flower girl making a mistake. Guests will think it’s cute if she makes a few blunders.
Having a flower girl in your wedding is just an option. If you do not have a young one close to you, or maybe you have too many and you don’t want to upset anyone by picking just one, then it is perfectly fine to go without. If you have someone in mind who is a tad older than flower girl age just simply find another position for her in your ceremony. Maybe, make her an usher, gift taker, greeter, or junior bridesmaid. If you do choose to have a flower girl she will make a great addition to your photos and it would be very cute to see her take part in he first dance. The ceremony and reception might possible wear your little one out. Don’t be surprised if her parents decide to take her home early. As another option provide a babysitting service if you are able. This way the flower girl will have plenty of kids to play with and your guests will be able to enjoy more of their time amongst adults.
Often, a flower girl is dressed in a miniature version of the bride’s dress, or a white dress with a sash that matches the bridesmaid’s dresses, or even a miniature version of the bridesmaids’ dresses. Many brides would rather the flower girl to wear white as a symbol of sweetness and purity. If you’re going this route, keep in mind that some bridal gowns may not be age-appropriate in the exact miniature version. The version your flower girl wears should be altered for her age and not necessarily exactly match what the bride is wearing. Make sure it’s comfortable and not too long, so that she won’t be pulling at her dress or tripping down the aisle. Jewelry should be simple and age-appropriate as well. Whatever happens, or whatever look you choose, the flower girl is sure to be the cutest part of any bridal party and a very important part of your wedding!
